The past year the news has flashed pictures of people protesting, vandalizing, and hurting one another. It’s easy to think is this our country? Are these our people? Are people losing their minds? We’re being shown sensational stories. Stories that cause us to get outraged and fearful. The people shown on the news are not the representatives of most Americans. Most Americans are going to work, taking care of their families, running errands, they’re helping their kids with homework, walking the dog, or catching up on their favorite TV shows. They are not storming the nation’s capital, or protesting, or putting our country’s security at risk. Before you become overcome with worry at the news stories, look around you. Are the people you associate with doing the things you see on TV? Do you know anyone that’s caught up in the madness? If the answer is no then maybe it’s not worth spending too much time worrying about. We can be aware of extremists but not get caught up in the madness. Most people are good. Most people respect other’s property, are considerate of others, are grateful to live in this country and want to peacefully live their lives.
